This work-in-progress project has been brewing for a long time on Bowen, and will help to provide health care services closer to home—currently many people have to leave the island for appointments and treatment. The building will house a collaborative team of health care professionals including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dentists, etc, all in a facility centrally located close to the Cove. There will be a treatment room for minor injuries and first aid, but not a full emergency department.
The Centre is two stories, and is approximately 10,000 sq ft. The most public side of the building, facing Miller Road, is distinguished by a curving roof and exposed timbers. The roof is also a green roof (vegetated), and will have solar PV panels.
